So today I went across the river in search of more water to photograph. (I had a go at trees, flowers and leaves as well but on a day with almost no breeze that didn&#8217;t work so well.) <\/p>\n<p>First of all, two &#8220;instructive&#8221; photographs. This picture shows a reasonably &#8216;normal&#8217; daylight exposure, no filter used. The waterfall is clearly made up of independent droplets.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_394\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-394\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fractalthoughts.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=394\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-394\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fractalthoughts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Waterfall-1-80th-s-590x393.jpg\" alt=\"Waterfall \" title=\"Waterfall - 1-80th s\" width=\"590\" height=\"393\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-394\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-394\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Waterfall - 1\/80s<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And now exactly the same shot, with the filter and a 60s exposure. The water becomes a silky sheet of white:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_393\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-393\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fractalthoughts.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=393\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-393\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fractalthoughts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Waterfall-60s-590x393.jpg\" alt=\"Waterfall\" title=\"Waterfall - 60s\" width=\"590\" height=\"393\" class=\"size-large wp-image-393\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-393\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Waterfall - 60s<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Interestingly, increasing the exposure further doesn&#8217;t help much beyond this point.
