First this meant finding a picture that contained some noticeable noise (i.e. shot in dim conditions at a high ISO setting). Since I generally avoid taking such shots this took some searching. However, have a spider again, just as an example. Here is the original:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fractalthoughts.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=884\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-884\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fractalthoughts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Spider-Original-950x950.jpg\" alt=\"Spider\" width=\"584\" height=\"584\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-884\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here is the result, having applied only automatic noise reduction:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fractalthoughts.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=885\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-885\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fractalthoughts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Spider-Noise-Reduction-950x950.jpg\" alt=\"Spider\" width=\"584\" height=\"584\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-885\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On a small screen, or if viewed only inside this post, these two may look close to identical. However, look closer: Here is a 1MP crop of a section of the web from the top-left. First, without noise reduction:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fractalthoughts.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=886\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-886\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fractalthoughts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Spider-Web-Section-Original-950x950.jpg\" alt=\"Spider\" width=\"584\" height=\"584\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-886\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here with noise reduction. Notice how much smoother the background is, without blurring the web strands. I think this is pretty amazing &#8212; and took only a couple of minutes to achieve.
