We’ve lived in Brisbane for three years now, and had never seen a snake. Today brought two Green Tree Snakes in the space of a few minutes. They are mostly harmless (to humans).

The crop of this morning’s outing to the Botanical Gardens. Other than the ducks, of course.

I first thought these ducks were fighting. But they were likely just ensuring that the world doesn’t run out of ducks.

It’s cold(-ish) and wet outside, courtesy of Cyclone Ita. Car air con is usually set to 24C, and the car promptly turned on the heater. Meanwhile, rain did not dissuade us from going to the Botanical Gardens, which, due to the weather, we had pretty much to ourselves.

First stop, the rain forest.

Flora and Fauna were equally wet.

My umbrella, appropriately, has a rainforest motif. The frogs loved the weather.

Today I was lucky enough to find a very successful cormorant in the process of fishing for yabbies, really close by. Here’s the story in pictures.

Having got a new tripod, clearly one has to try it out. Here are some of today’s long-exposure shots from the Botanical Gardens.

We went to Tewantin with the express intention of photographing pelicans. We got lucky — an angler had caught some bluefin tuna, and was just butchering his catch at the station provided specifically for this task. The pelicans knew what was coming next, and I got some awesome shots.
